How to setup 1and1 email account in Outlook 2010
Here is a quick guide on how to set up 1and1 email accounts in Microsoft Outlook 2010. The main thing to note on a 1and1 email account is that the outgoing server requires authentication, if this is not set then you wont be able to send email.
IMAP or POP?
This guide will show you how to set up both types of email account, the main reason you would use an IMAP is if you want several people to collect email and the email to be synchronised for each user, or if you have multiple devices such as PC, iPad, smart phone and you want to sync email on all your devices. Nuff said…. here is the quick guide to setting up your 1and1 email account in Outlook 2010
Step 5 – POP3 Email Account Set up
Fill in the details like pictured below replacing ’email@yourdomain.co.uk’ with your email address in both the ‘E-mail Address’ and ‘User Name’ boxes, and fill in your password too
The important part here for pop is using the correct 1and1 email server details..
pop.1and1.co.uk (for incoming email server)
auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk (for outgoing email server)

Step 5 – IMAP Email Account Set up
Fill in the details like pictured below replacing ’email@yourdomain.co.uk’ with your email address in both the ‘E-mail Address’ and ‘User Name’ boxes, and fill in your password too
The important part here for imap is using the correct 1and1 email server details..
imap.1and1.co.uk (for incoming email server)
auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk (for outgoing email server)

Step 6 – Select ‘Outgoing Server’ and turn on ‘My outgoing server requires authentication’
Also make sure the ‘Use same settings as my incoming mail server’ is selected, this will use the same user name and password as you incoming server to send to the out going mail server to authenticate your outgoing email.
All Done!
…and thats it, save all these settings and your email should work spot on. If you get any errors its most likely to be a typo in your imcoing/outgoing email servers or your email/password. Usually the error message will give you an idea of where your problem is, authentication errors will usually mean incorrect email or password, can’t find server usually will be a type on your incoming or out going email server.
